This project started with a photograph and the vision to turn it into a statement piece for my brother's home. The lion image was taken by my brother’s family while on vacation in Africa, which made the piece more than just wall art. The artwork measured 48 inches by 60 inches, so it needed more than a standard frame. We built a custom wood frame to fit the artwork. After the build, the artwork was transformed into a bold focal point. The natural wood frame gave it a clean and timeless look, while the reinforced construction made it strong and secure. Once installed, the piece completely changed the room and gave this special family photograph the presence it deserved.
This bison artwork was printed on a large canvas and then hand-stretched over a custom-built frame. My brother and I built the 4-foot by 5-foot stretcher frame, carefully stretched the canvas image over it, and secured it in place.
We then built the outer frame and stained it with a dark finish to complement the strength and depth of the image. The canvas was inserted inside the outer frame in a way that gives it a floating appearance, adding dimension and a clean, finished look.
This piece combines a powerful image with handcrafted framing, creating artwork that feels bold, grounded, and full of character.
I built this plywood locker as an example project for a class I will be teaching at Goodwill. The purpose of the project is to give CTE students hands-on building experience while creating something practical, useful, and challenging.
The locker is designed with multiple functional spaces. The top cubby provides storage for smaller items, the middle section includes hooks for hanging coats, bags, or tools, and the lower section serves as both a seat and a lockable storage bin for personal belongings.
The locker is built entirely from plywood and measures 16 inches wide by 71 inches tall, with the seat sitting 18 inches high. This project gives students the opportunity to practice measuring, cutting, assembling, sanding, and finishing while building a piece they can take pride in.
This coat rack is crafted from redwood salvaged from a barn and features a license plate that serves as a reminder of someone special for the customer it was made for.
